carepack | I've found a commit in tassadars repo to support linux systems, I think I need something similar for safestrap recovery | 09:03 |
NeKit | carepack, what device? | 09:05 |
carepack | motorola droid4 (maserati) | 09:06 |
NeKit | what MultiROM does is installs CM base, installs SFOS, copies /system to SFOS rootfs and removes system.mount service from /liv/systemd | 09:06 |
NeKit | carepack, do you have it running already? | 09:06 |
NeKit | init script in boot.img is patched to mount SFOS rootfs from MultiROM folder | 09:07 |
carepack | no, my problem is that I tried different mountpoint options in fixup-mountpoint (treid a lot) but system boots alway cm, still | 09:07 |
NeKit | carepack, maybe I can team up with you then? | 09:08 |
NeKit | got the device recently | 09:08 |
carepack | would be nice | 09:08 |

NeKit | yes | 09:08 |
carepack | cool. what you've done to get them boot? | 09:09 |
NeKit | I didn't integrate it into Safestrap properly yet, just replace kernel and ramdisk.img in CM's /system/etc/kexec | 09:10 |
NeKit | *replaced | 09:10 |
NeKit | do you have Safestrap with safe slot in /webtop and /preinstall? | 09:11 |

* lukeoftheaura is wondering why the hadk guide seems to be so long | 11:48
r0kk3rz | because it is? its not that long | 11:50 |
lukeoftheaura | it is when you have no idea how android and mer and all that work | 11:51 |
lukeoftheaura | and you're me and trying to port sailfish OS to your phone because you don't like android and are a massive linux nerd | 11:51 |
r0kk3rz | in that case the length is good, because it spells things out for you | 11:51 |
r0kk3rz | lukeoftheaura: if you want to port sailfish, you need to be prepared to learn lots and spend quite a lot of time on that effort | 11:52 |
r0kk3rz | the HADK document is merely the beginning | 11:53 |

lukeoftheaura | but to run sailfish I either have to buy a new phone anyway or make a port | 12:02 |
lukeoftheaura | and I don't want to make a port without first knowing I like sailfish | 12:02 |
r0kk3rz | well, you have the option of making a port at least | 12:06 |
r0kk3rz | but considering your other choices are windows phone and iOS... | 12:07 |
lukeoftheaura | How long does making a port take? | 12:08 |
lukeoftheaura | (considering I know absolutely nothing about any of this) | 12:08 |

minimec | miau_: I investigated that bluetooth problem once, and realized that pulseaudio is not involved with bluetooth calls. That's why music over bluetooth works well, but calls do not. Keij0 | is anyone porting sfos to Kryo subarch, Snapdragon 820 in particular? | 22:54 |
sledges | miau_: you'll need a hack to make OTA work on non-default repo, simply by using this script (replace the RealJohnGalt:/testing:/common/sailfish_latest_armv7hl/ with our main common) https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris/Install_SailfishOS_for_hammerhead#WIP_Over-the-Air_updates_.28OTA.29 | 22:54 |

dstm | sledges: it can't work on latest cm13 because of security patches, maybe it works on aosp or an earlier version of cm13. | 22:55 |
miau_ | sledges: Thanks, i*ll give it a try. | 22:56 |
Keij0 | dstm: What security patches? | 22:56 |
dstm | Keij0: https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/62373/ | 22:56 |
sledges | miau_: does camera work for you on hammerhead? is it a good candidate to replace 12.1? (assuming it's ok to sacrifice sfdroid functionality). | 22:57 |
sledges | miau_: also you'll need to beware of community-adaptation sneaking in and reverting your repo hack, so doublecheck how jolla store works etc when it refreshes repos | 22:57 |
Keij0 | Okay | 22:58 |
Keij0 | I don't even have kernel that is able to cooperate with CM-13/Lineage13 | 22:58 |
miau_ | sledges: Camera works, video recording doesn't. | 22:58 |
Keij0 | Is Lineage just a rebranded CM or do they differ in codebase? | 22:59 |
dstm | Keij0: it's just a rebranding | 23:02 |
Keij0 | dstm: Okay, I'm looking forward to getting Kryo-based board, wondering if these security reinforcements of android6 and above can create any problems with sfos porting | 23:05 |
sledges | dstm: would a partial revert solve y/our issues? | 23:07 |
dstm | Keij0: yes they do, but the security patches I was speaking about are only contained in the cm13 branch, I don't see them in the aosp tree | 23:07 |

dstm | sledges: Yes, I guess it would work, but I'm not sure about the security implications | 23:08 |
sledges | dstm: given aosp/caf went ahead without this patched?... | 23:09 |
sledges | also, partial reverts would surely be short-term solution (or until we switch to cm14) | 23:09 |
sledges | (or find a solution in droidmedia) | 23:10 |
dstm | sledges: no, the cm13 patches are based on aosp sec patches, but they are modified and cm also added their own stuff to them | 23:11 |
sledges | so take aosp patches | 23:12 |
dstm | sledges: it's not about metadata, which describes the codec, it's buffer sharing across processes | 23:13 |

sledges | btw apologies for seeing internal JB#... bugrefs, we have practise in place that bug should be created in the open for commits that are in the open, but sometimes deadline-was-yesterday kicks in or time :) | 23:15 |

sledges | if not, let's publicly slate them :D | 23:18 |
dstm | hehe | 23:18 |
sledges | c | 23:19 |
dstm | actually there is a lot to speak about, concerning droidmedia, since people use precompiled cm13-bases we would need to revert some patches recompile some libs and preload them, and then test if this actually works | 23:21 |
sledges | dstm: libstagefright and libmedia also got those patches | 23:22 |
dstm | sledges: https://github.com/mer-hybris/android_frameworks_av contains the patches I'm speaking about | 23:23 |
sledges | dstm: you are right, us patching frameworks_av with a hybris patch (e.g. partial revert) would result in them libstagefright.so being recompiled and placed under /usr/libexec/droid-hybris/system/lib/ | 23:23 |
sledges | i wonder now how that would marry together, there's only way to find out | 23:24 |
dstm | sledges: but we would also need to instruct the linker to preload the as far as I understand | 23:24 |
sledges | we have LD_LIBRARY_PATH pointing to there | 23:24 |
*** SfietKonstantin <SfietKonstantin!~sk@88.190.246.243> has joined #sailfishos-porters | 23:24
sledges | setenv preload was mainly needed for libcameraservice (the only patch for now in _av) as it was injected into /init*rc | 23:25 |
dstm | sure? | 23:25 |
sledges | but since those are media files, we might have to use explicit preload too (as they have different lookups) | 23:25 |
sledges | at any rate, if all this works, it wouldn't require us to alter people's precompiled cm13-bases | 23:26 |
sledges | so we're good there at least:) | 23:26 |
dstm | right | 23:26 |
dstm | there might be another possibility, it includes rewriting droidmedias recorder, I think it would work without patching | 23:27 |
sledges | that's the proper way;) | 23:28 |
sledges | but isn't droidmedia counted as a separate process? | 23:28 |
dstm | droidmedia starts some android services and provides an interface for gst-droid | 23:29 |
sledges | so why is buffer sharing across processes sounds like an issue at the moment? | 23:31 |
dstm | however I'm new to sailfishos and I had only 1week to look at all this so I could be wrong in some judgements | 23:32 |

dstm | so as far as I understand: metadatainbuffers means, that not the actual frame-data is send between processes (which needs a memcpy), but only a (fd to a memblock?), so only the metadata needs to be copied, and this had sine sec issues, so cm changed some stuff which as far as I can see breaks old applications | 23:37 |
wls | wdehoog - awesome! thank you | 23:38 |
dstm | sledges: thx, but there is a lot of stuff I don't understand right now ;) | 23:42 |
sledges | will get there:) you can always recompile your patched libmedia/stagefright .so files and place them under /system/lib; and when found a solution that still needs to modify them, then we'll place them under /usr/libexec/ and preload | 23:43 |
*** wls <wls!~wls@216.150.198.4> has quit IRC (Quit: wls) | 23:46
dstm | I would prefer to look first for a possibility to rework droidmedia's recorder first | 23:46 |
sledges | sure that would be the best/ultimate aim, just saying that android .so debugging even in sfos context is still at hand | 23:47 |
sledges | debugging/understanding more:) | 23:47 |
dstm | just for reference: media/libmediaplayerservice/StagefrightRecorder.cpp contains an example how droidmedia could implement an recorder in a slightly different way | 23:52 |
