Mister_Magistermal: here's my idea: buy some very cheap second hand tablet from the likes of lenovo, port sfos using GSI as a base, but just enough to have screen touch and wifi working, which could work without even droid-hal right? if we're lucky. Do you think it's feasable? My idea to have an app running instead of lipstick and make it into nice DIY tablet so that i can put whatever i want in said app and have nice clear gui, for example15:45

T42<CRK_11755> Hi all is there going to be any new updates on the fair phone 4 preferably being able to use some Android apps natively like a Jolla phone15:46
Mister_Magisternone of sfos phones can use android apps natively15:47
T42<CRK_11755> I understand there's a layer that goes on top of it cannot be done with the fair phone 415:50
Mister_Magisterfp4 can run waydroid which is alternative15:51
T42<CRK_11755> Not looking to run way droid that kind of defeats the purpose15:51
Mister_Magisterthere's no difference between waydroid and the jolla stuff15:51
Mister_Magisterjolla's stuff aka aliendalvik is basically same thing just more integrated15:51
T42<CRK_11755> Oh okay does it run a whole separate OS like lineage OS when you click on an Android app when I did it with Ubuntu touch all I did was eat up my battery15:54
T42<CRK_11755> And I think the sailfish interface is way nicer than the Ubuntu touch15:54
Mister_Magistersure but yes waydroid does that and so does aliendalvik15:56
Mister_Magisterjust aliendalvik is more integrated, it lists installed apps on sfos home screen and if you open it it opens the app in the android, as separate window15:56
Mister_Magisterbut make no mistake entire android is running you just don't see it15:56
Mister_Magisteralso yes it also eats battery, running 2 os's at the same time will always eat battery15:57
T42<CRK_11755> Okay cool makes sense thanks for the info appreciate it16:02
malit seems waydroid is still lineage 20 based which is a problem for fairphone ports16:52
Mister_Magisterwhy would that be a problem?16:57
malcompatiblity issues with host side libs17:02
malandroid 14 base is too new for current waydroid17:03
Mister_Magistermal: but what do you think of my idea? feasible?18:14
malwell it's probably possible19:17
malbut not sure if it would be just easier to have the UI up and the app running there19:17
T42<Mister_Magister> nono it's quite the same thing, just running app directly on hwcomposer without lipstick19:36
T42<Mister_Magister> I've done that before while testing stylus19:36
T42<Mister_Magister> so that it runs in sort of kiosk mode, you can't leave it and it launches on boot19:36
T42<Mister_Magister> but that's not the hard part, porting on top of gsi is19:37
malwell you still need to rebuild kernel modules against patched kernel so not as gsi as android19:41
malbut most of the time kernel probably could be shared and just needs kernel modules so be built against correct kernel config19:42
T42<Mister_Magister> Well i don't even mean sharing it between devices, just one device19:56
