entilthe search in the fairphone thread comes up with nothing for the video recording issue on fp5; is that the same issue as stated for fp2, that the camera app hangs but the video is stored?07:25
malentil: different issue11:10
entilmal: what's the fp5 video recording like? complete disaster?11:11
malneeds camera2 api support to droidmedia11:12
entilthat means someone has to implement that api for the fp5 and then all's good? but still photos were not reported to have issues so that's cool11:16
entiland no waydroid, it seems :/11:17
entilthe backstory is that this xperia 10iv is getting on my nerves, and I hear the 10v is worse, and the c2 could be an "upgrade" but only in the sense of "a lot of stuff not sucking" - and I have fond memories of using the fp2 until fairphone quit making spare parts for it11:17
entiltoo bad I probably don't have the money for it, but really the only android stuff I don't think would function on my work phone is mobilepay, because it's about the phone number, and even there maybe I could fudge it to believe it's on another number11:18
malentil: camera2 api support is mostly done, just bugs11:33
entilmal: that's nice to hear11:34
entilthere used to be that merhybris table somewhere, now I found a forum listing which is probably better up-to-date, and judging by it, the fp5 would be the strongest port to get - provided android isn't a hard requirement11:34
malI haven't tried waydroid in a while, to see if the newer versions of it would work on fp4/fp511:35
entilchecking the .fi offerings in the usual places ends up pointing me to the official store, still at a price I wouldn't shell out as a drunken joke, but I gotta set some internal deadline for this 10iv debacle11:36
entilthen if sony doesn't come through, it is what it is11:37
malwell the new blobs have working camera for example, but the issue is that sailfish side needs changes for the new blobs11:38
entiloh? it's actually in jolla's court now? :o surprising, though maybe not surprising they got the c2 and the mind2 and the summer holidays11:38
entilbut I do know I will need a phone that doesn't bug out all the time in september, so that's not much time to do much11:39
entiland it's not just the camera, but the glitchy internet, the weird airplane-mode behavior, the lack of private phone calls unless you have a bt11:39
entilheadset11:40
FireFly..is the last one the built-in handset speaker not working?11:41
malI suspect the issue with wired headsets11:41
FireFlyah11:41
entilyeah, how it's effectively always on speaker11:41
FireFlyoh, oof11:42
malI have idea for that, and also for airplane mode issue11:42
entiland then the issue almost no one but me has, direc85 did until he changed to a c2, that the phone reboots when I disconnect the charger11:42
entilI mean there's jank, and then there's this super-jank11:42
malentil: which blobs do you use?11:42
FireFlyreminds me of an acquaintance who kept using the N900 for a fair while (at least over a year I wanna say) after the USB port broke, with an external battery charger and a spare battery11:44
entilmal: can't remember, whatever was available at the time, because there were forum comments that later blobs didn't actually help with anything11:44
entilFireFly: the n900 was glorious; bring back that form factor with an oled screen and the mugen megabattery that made it fit your hand (and feel like a lethal weapon)11:45
malentil: afaik the usb disconnect issue happens with certain blob versions, you can check on device from the build.prop file under /odm/ somewhere, was it just /odm/ or /odm/etc/11:45
entilmal: ro.odm.version=14_5.4_murray_v311:47
maldoes the reboot happen on all chargers or some?11:48
entilevery one I've come across11:48
maleven if connected to computer via usb?11:49
entilI'll verify, I never charge off the computer, a sec plz11:50
entilI'm sure it has to charge for a while11:50
entilbut https://developer.sony.com/file/download/software-binaries-for-aosp-android-14-0-kernel-5-4-murray-v7a these for example are clearly newer than my installation, gotta check the forums if they'll work as drop-in replacements11:51
malthe v7 is the one that needs changes to sfos side11:51
maldon't bother trying11:51
malyou won't have working sensors, gps, nfc or volte with those, and I think it needed manual changes to certain file to prevent it from rebooting after minutes11:52
entila very unscientific check, but I have a file locally called w/e v3a_murray w/e, so if v6a is still functional, guess I could add that to my todo list, but if there's no actual benefit, why bother11:52
malI don't remember if v6 also needed changes11:53
entilcharged my phone from 12% to 13%, off the laptop, let's see if there's a reboot11:53
entilyeah well the forums will probably know that11:53
entilbut with a one-month break for summer and how I absolutely need to have a phone sometime in september, I'm already starting to mentally prepare to jump off the 10iv; there's no way jolla will put in the effort here11:54
entilaaaand the phone rebooted11:54
entilnote that I opted for charging only when asked. Off a wall-charger, it will prompt, and it doesn't matter, it will always reboot, so dunno about mtp modes mattering11:54
malI will try to reproduce that, but pretty sure I have charged my device many times11:55
malbut about the changes to sfos side for new blobs, I have the changes for nfc and gps, partially for sensors but volte is still to be done11:56
entilthere's been very little on the forums about it; I discussed it with direc85 and this is something of a known issue within jolla I guess, but it's apparently rare enough that I'm a lucky winner11:56
entilis volte a consideration in .fi? I don't think I've seen it referred to in any cell network settings11:57
malvolte is used everywhere here and the turned of 3g so that affects things quite a lot11:59
entilyeah ok12:01
entilhttps://forum.sailfishos.org/t/new-binaries-blobs-for-xperia-v-and-iv-what-is-happening-actually/22584/ reads like v6a is an absolute non-starter and v5a_zambezi at least has issues so I'm not sure if murray would be worth the risk12:02
entilit likely was v4a when people commented that the upgrade did nothing12:02
entilso after the fixes for gps and nfc, finished sensors, volte, and hopefully someday camera, internet, audio, it should be just about ok - which is all arguing for ditching android and getting the fp5 :D12:04
malneed to see when fp6 gets lineageos so I can start porting12:10
entilI'm sure you'll crush it and/or knock it out of the park, but I'm doubtful a new fp6 will be as complete as an fp5 port by the time I need to make serious decisions about things; but otoh I can't buy anything right now so who knows12:13
entilthe fp6 is surprisingly affordable12:14
entillike in comparison, neither is *cheap*12:14
malunless there are some unusual issues it should not take more than days to get to where fp5 is, I have already hybris-22 (android 15) base support patched and waiting for testing on some device12:15
entilgod I miss the fp2 days, all this stuff was really neat, and now you're bringing it back12:15
malbut it might take some time to get lineageos for fp6, not sure how long it took for fp512:16
entilif I had to guess, the fp5 is more than enough phone for my needs (pretty much none of them fulfilled by the 10iv) and its price might drop and I'd be fine; fomo is a state of mind12:17
malit's also possible fp6 needs the same nfc, gps and sensor stuff that sonys need12:17
entilsure (I suppose anytthing's possible, but is that based on an educated guess about the firmwares used?)12:19
malI suspect it needs those but can't be sure yet, I could ask from my fairphone contact about it or wait until I get the device12:20
entilthe sad part about all of this is that I'd pay for AAS on fp in a heartbeat, and I can't be alone in thinking that, but for some reason jolla won't take the cash12:21
entillike if I had the phone and literally the only thing not going great is video recording, which is my least-used use case12:22
malinteresting how quickly I got that hybris-22 base patched and built (not tested on device yet so might have some issues), it took only one evening12:25
entilyou've also been doing this for quite a while, I'm sure experience matters12:26
rinigusentil and mal : xperia 10iv and 10v have both official lineage available. taking into account that we have already large set of functionality working on xperia 1iv (and I suspect soon on 5iv) using los, maybe some unofficial port for those 10 models would make sense. not that jolla could release it for legal (read "blobs") reasons, but at least users having these devices could get something working18:57
rinigusat least no need to wait for aosp blobs nor port stock to lineage18:58
malwell the new blobs seem quite reasonable, just need adapting in sfos side19:48
rinigusthat's good to hear as its a better solution20:32
T42<NotKit> mal, you don't strictly need LineageOS either20:37
T42<NotKit> could probably build hybris parts with halium_arm64 or other generic Android tree20:38
