| nephros | Sooo can we run that BB10 Marathon UI on top of SFOS? | 06:59 |
|---|---|---|
| rinigus | nephros: I would expect its very early days. seems like it started towards the end of october | 08:16 |
| rinigus | but we do need to move to xdg-shell. isn't it the main grand challenge for sfos these days? something was discussed and summarized at the latest meeting/community news. now question is how do we plan that switch? | 08:27 |
| nephros | rinigus: yeah, I think a clear community collaboration process is dearly missing. In general, not just with that one. | 08:48 |
| nephros | I mean, I have the impression now you can do some work, maybe submit a PR, and *then* architecture and solution design is discussed. | 08:49 |
| nephros | OTOH, Damien has collaborated a lot and with good success I think. | 08:51 |
| mal | of course issue tracker could be used to present some idea and ask for comments on architecture and other design things | 08:53 |
| nephros | mal: Sure, but that's just a "tool" we have. What I mean is a rough outline or a collaboration process. | 09:00 |
| nephros | Like "First, file an issue, then present at a Community Meeting, then do this, then Jolla will do that, then tihs happens." | 09:01 |
| rinigus | nephros: in the case of xdg-shell, community has a bit more freedom (we can use qt6) than jolla. issues are fine, just not sure which repo to use. fso is an option for such discussion, maybe should try there | 09:01 |
| rinigus | I suggest that we make a list of options and take it from there. lipstick on qt6 is probably available via https://github.com/nemomobile-ux/lipstick, but I haven't checked that out recently | 09:02 |
| rinigus | as for qtwebengine, I have moved back to 6.8.3 and get crashes and hangs (mutexes messed up?). rebuilding it right now with dropped widgets, but that's mainly for cleanup purposes. | 09:04 |
| nephros | rinigus: OK I'll try not to clog the OBS queue with kodi builds too much ;) | 09:05 |
| rinigus | nephros: no worries -- I can always test using aarch64 server at OCI. together with docker build env that works quite nicely | 09:06 |
| rinigus | ... and is faster than OBS anyway | 09:06 |
| nephros | btw mal I have tried to clean up some of my projects on OBS, there *should* be some disk space to be freed if orphan projects are cleaned up. | 09:07 |
| nephros | that is, if the theory holds that "osc copypac . package . package-tmp; osc rdelete . package; osc copypac . package-tmp . package; osc rdelete package-tmp" frees resources from old revisions. | 09:08 |
| nephros | rinigus: I have read good things about OCI. | 09:09 |
| nephros | I still would love to have a SFOS builder for RPi though, my RPi cluster box is gathering dust. | 09:10 |
| poetaster | piggz[m], just testing the volla usb issue and it appears to be intermittent. I can hang the device on power only, and it appears not to react. Move it with cable to pc and 'wait'. having set usb to always prompt, it seems to work reliably when I connect to a pc. | 09:18 |
| poetaster | piggz[m], after a round of connnecting to the pc, I also get the prompt moving it directly to a power only charger. | 09:19 |
| rinigus | nephros: SFOS builder for RPi? I am using https://github.com/sailfishos-open/docker-sailfishos-builder with OCI. should work on RPi as well, I imagine. or want to setup OBS there? | 09:19 |
| rinigus | ... for a cluster | 09:19 |
| poetaster | rinigus, I have dedicated (hetzner) hardware that sleeps a lot Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 64GB ram. It's a proxmox with mostly minimaL systems (devuans). | 09:36 |
| rinigus | poetaster: in this context, x86 is not that interesting. hence the use of aarch64 server. that allows me to compile qtwebengine and other beasts if needed natively. without any sb2 interaction | 09:37 |
| poetaster | rinigus, that's what I thought. and qemu is too slow, correct? | 09:38 |
| rinigus | poetaster: qemu is too slow indeed. and even then you could hit some (rather rare) bugs | 09:38 |
| rinigus | no emulation, no cross-compile -> happy dev | 09:39 |
| poetaster | rinigus, yeah, I'm mostly doing embedded (stm, pi pico, lgt) c++ so it's even happier dev | 10:16 |
