pdanek | What was the best phone you ever had? | 06:48 |
pdanek | I mean relative to the year you had it. | 06:48 |
pdanek | Best at the time. | 06:48 |
chriadam_ | what do you mean by "best"? highest build quality, best usability, best screen, best camera, open source (if that matters to you), etc etc are all separate and mostly orthogonal axes of measurement. | 06:52 |

pdanek | chriadam: subjectively best for you | 07:18 |
pdanek | Not best compared to the market at the time | 07:18 |
pdanek | Basically period of life when you thought, oh yeah, this phone is amazing, I want it forever | 07:18 |
pdanek | For me it was definitely Nokia N900 | 07:18 |
pdanek | In fact when it aged, I sold it on ebay and I bought Android... After 1 week I returned the Android phone and bought another N900 on ebay | 07:19 |
pdanek | Then eventually I jumped to Jolla. Which was just to fill the gap, but not extraordinary like N900 | 07:20 |
Nicd- | hehe, N900 was the best phone I had at that time and from it I went to the worst phone I've ever had (Lumia 900) | 07:20 |
pdanek | :) | 07:20 |
pdanek | Maybe I should buy one again | 07:22 |
pdanek | When I still can | 07:22 |
pdanek | In some nice condition | 07:22 |
pdanek | And keep it as memory on shelf | 07:22 |
pdanek | In 10 years it might be worth triple pricr | 07:23 |
pdanek | I have this habbit of being minimalist, so of course every phone I don't use I sell, even for bargain | 07:23 |

Nicd- | tohkbd2 is the "tohkbd" everyone talks about | 12:00 |
Jope | ah ok | 12:01 |
jankratochvil | In some way TOHKBD2 is even better than N900 as they keys are larger + there is more of them (incl. numerical row). | 12:01 |
* jankratochvil forgot about a better display of the Android phone, 540×960 is not competitive. | 12:02

Tomin | Jolla doesn't sell spare batteries (for original Jolla), right? | 14:58 |
kid | They've only had one batch out for that. Which was sold out a long time ago. | 14:59 |
* inte[m] bought one on ebay quite some time ago | 15:00
inte[m] | was ok | 15:00 |
kid | Som tips for unoff. batts. van be foud in tjc | 15:00 |
Tomin | yes, I know they did for a little while, I'm just checking, because I hate to throw away working devices | 15:00 |
Tomin | Polarcell seems to be the best option, although Jolla doesn't seem to approve | 15:00 |
inte[m] | Tomin why do you want to throw away your phone? | 15:01 |
inte[m] | Because the battery is broken!? | 15:01 |
Tomin | I don't want to, it keeps rebooting and battery resistance test fails (cleaning the contacts or adding more support doesn't help) | 15:01 |
inte[m] | does it also reboot when connected to power? | 15:01 |
Tomin | I don't think so, I mean it reboots somewhat randomly when using it and I don't remember it ever rebooting when charging, but then again I rarely use it while charging | 15:02 |
inte[m] | i remember having had this issue with my jolla one but i guess i solved it by eather replacing the battery or putting a little sheet of paper on between battery and case. | 15:02 |
inte[m] | or both | 15:02 |
inte[m] | this is a know issue | 15:03 |
Tomin | my phone has that kind of fix made by warranty service about three years ago | 15:03 |
inte[m] | check tjc for that | 15:03 |
Tomin | I know, I've searched through TJC and what I've found is that I can't get offical battery (just checking here if there is more current information) so 3rd party battery is the only thing left for me to do (besides getting a new phone) | 15:04 |
inte[m] | sure but those are fine | 15:05 |
r0kk3rz | Tomin: push the pins on the phone a few times | 15:07 |

Tomin | > -0.3 | 15:19 |
inte[m] | beta? | 15:19 |
Tomin | yes | 15:19 |
r0kk3rz | thats a lot closer to spec than -3 :) | 15:20 |
inte[m] | ah, beta | 15:20 |
inte[m] | ;) | 15:20 |
Tomin | good values beta > -0.3 and sigma^2 > 0.85 | 15:20 |
Tomin | mine: beta = -0.404, alpha = 4.068 and sigma^2 = 0.970 | 15:20 |
r0kk3rz | that might be ok, im sure you'll notice if you're still getting reboots all the time | 15:21 |
Tomin | earlier today it was better than what it is now so I'm pretty sure I'll get another reboot at some point. probably tomorrow (they seem to occur at least every few days if not more often) | 15:24 |

phlixi_o | Tomin: a lot of the time the reboot problem is fixed very easily by gently pushing and releasing the 3 springs a few times | 15:54 |
*** Blizzz <Blizzz!~blizzz@ubuntu/member/blizzz> has joined #jollamobile | 15:56
Tomin | phlixi_o: r0kk3rz told me to do that already, I tried it and now I'm waiting for it to reboot at some point (I'm not convinced that it will help, but we'll see) | 16:00 |
r0kk3rz | Tomin: presumably you charge the phone over night? so its worse on lower charge? | 16:02 |
phlixi_o | if it is the problem that is solved with the "rocking the springs trick", then its pretty plausible... the contact from board to battery is bad, due to oxidation on the hinges. by moving the contacts, the oxidation gets removed, => resistance lowers, current goes up. | 16:05 |
Tomin | r0kk3rz: I think it is, but also the percentage is not very reliable. Sometimes it can be 80% and after reboot it's more like 50% or it might go to from 50% to <10% (just examples from my head, I don't keep record what it really is). I usually charge my phone once the battery is less than 50% (read: when I notice it is <50%) which is something like every other night maybe (I don't keep a record of charging) | 16:05 |
r0kk3rz | Tomin: that sounds like the contacts problem for sure, especially the suddenly dropping to zero part :) | 16:06 |
r0kk3rz | anyway see how you go | 16:06 |
