bobsummerwillHey porters!01:34
bobsummerwillSo I have just got hold of a Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch.   It is a really nice bit of kit.01:34
bobsummerwillSee http://www.tizenexperts.com/2015/10/gear-s2-samsung-have-really-nailed-it-this-time/01:34
bobsummerwillThe only problem is that is running the wrong OS.01:35
bobsummerwillhttp://www.engadget.com/2015/07/22/tizen-the-emperor-has-no-clothes/01:35
bobsummerwillI know that @javispedro (http://javispedro.com/) did some work on Qt for the Gear 2 a year and a bit ago.01:36
bobsummerwillAnd we had a few threads about BlueZ changes on Tizen01:37
bobsummerwillAnd about the fact that the source code which Samsung gave you for it was not complete and/or not matching the binaries01:38
bobsummerwillAnd that the bluetooth protocol (SAP) was proprietary, etc.01:38
bobsummerwillAnd that Javier looked at building a "Gear Manager" for Sailfish and concluded it wasn't possible.01:38
bobsummerwillAnd I know that Carsten has mentioned to me before difficulties of porting Sailfish to Tizen devices because of the Tizen weirdness.01:39
bobsummerwillWhich makes it much harder than for Android, where a lot of effort has already been applied around libhybris, etc.01:40
bobsummerwillBearing all of that in mind ...01:40
bobsummerwillI think this would be a very fun project.    The hardware ROCKS.01:40
bobsummerwillSo maybe muggins here will end up trying to do it.01:40
bobsummerwillI'm just looking for any kind of feedback people might have on the size/complexity of such a project.01:41
bobsummerwillAnd what kind of steps I would need to follow.01:41
bobsummerwillI'm assuming it would be analogous to the process for Android ports, but harder.01:41
bobsummerwillSo what shape would it have?   What kind of phases could I expect?01:41
bobsummerwillShould I just give up now?   Is it pointless?   Impossibly hard?01:42
bobsummerwillWhere do I start?01:42
bobsummerwillRequesting the source code?01:42
bobsummerwillLet me do that now.01:42
bobsummerwillThanks in advance for any guidance you might have.01:43
